Offered here for your consideration are two Catlinite pipes, one with a stem. The pipe bowl without the stem is masterfully carved as the head of a Native American wearing a feather headdress. The pipe with the stem is long and angular with a wood stem that has the interesting addition of the full feathered body of a fowl lashed to it. Catlinite, also known as pipestone, is a red clay stone prized by Native American tribes for the ease with which it could be shaped. It was named for George Catlin, the early American painter who often chose Native Americans as his subject. These interesting pipes would be a nice addition to your pipe or Native American collection or decor.
