MAKER: 5 year old Kermit N. Lee found an arrowhead near El Dorado Spring, Missouri and was hooked. He hunted arrowheads on the way to school and spent his lunch money buying arrowheads, which later led to a new form of art. Lee came to Phoenix, AZ in 1937, and during WW II worked at Goodyear Aircraft Corp, and later owned his own contracting firm. He continued collecting Indian artifacts through this time, and entered the Indian trading business in 1950 when Lee’s Indian Craft was opened by Lee and his wife, Helen. Later, Lee’s main interest became the creation of arrowhead paintings created by filling in the outline of drawings with arrowheads in colors. He eventually filled his trading post with 75 framed arrowhead displays mounted under glass, and filled his office with arrowhead paintings of Indian subjects. He stated that “It takes as many as 2500 arrowheads for a picture, and I may have to go through 300,000 to get the right colors.” He has received national recognition for this and is included in Who’s Who in Indian relics. Each of his pieces are signed K.N. LEE in arrowheads. (Arizona Republic, June 16, 1974)
