Offered here for your consideration is an original O'odham Tash painting by Michael Chiago. This is the original painting used as the artwork for program covers, posters and printed materials for the event in Casa Grande, AZ. The artist and illustrator, Michael Chiago, was born in the Kohatk Village on the Tohono O’odham reservation in Arizona. Many of Chiago’s artworks provide a glimpse into the traditions of the O’odham, based on his recollections of growing up on the reservation and stories told by tribal elders. This work portrays the Tohono O'odham gathered in a ceremonial dance. People seated and kneeling on a rug are surrounded by a ring of dancers, hands joined, who, in turn, are surrounded by a larger circle of spectators. In the near background sits the tribal village while in the far background rise mountains capped by gathering clouds. Fulfilling his goal to portray his people's traditions, Mr. Chiago has created a lively and revealing picture of a people honoring that traditional lifestyle. Bid now to hang this great work on your wall!
