The St. Gaudens $20 Gold Coin is named for its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who was a noted sculptor and was appointed by President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign the Gold Coin. The first St. Gaudens double eagle was struck in 1907, and this one was made at the Philadelphia mint in 1920.
