Description: Offered here for your bidding pleasure is a unique stone "box" that looks like a whetstone. It is actually what is known as a Clay Ironstone concretion, with the inner limonite part (hydrated hematite) dried out and shrunk, and the "box" part fractured (probably weather related) which created this box effect. This item was found in the Midwest along with other stone artifacts, so it was probably of great interest to prehistoric peoples as well. According to an expert who looked it over, it is, "Interesting, but a totally natural phenomenon." MAKER: Unknown. APPROX AGE: Prehistoric. SIZE: Measures 3-3/4 inches wide and 1/12 inches tall. CONDITION: Good for its age, normal wear expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description and are hereby incorporated into the description, specifically with regards to condition. SHIPPING: There will be a $5 handling / packaging fee for shipping this lot. The actual cost of postage will be added on top of that. BUY IT NOW: If you would like to buy this item now, without waiting for the auction day to bid on it, we do offer this option (which is available up to 48 hours before the actual auction starts). The “Buy it Now” price is the high estimate of this lot (plus applicable fees and the Buyer's premium you pay is discounted to only 10% when using the Buy it Now option). If you would like to exercise this option, you must contact us by email (or phone as long as you talk to someone live). Reference this lot number and your intention to "Buy it Now."
